Time Warner Cable caps bandwidth for its users.

Despite much protest, Time Warner Cable seem to be dead set on issuing bandwidth caps on their subscribers. Caps start at 1, 10, 20, 40, 60, or 100GB depending on your service plan, and overage charges of $2 or $1 dollar per GB depending on your service plans. The good news? well TWC has set a cap on overage charges to $75. What this means is that for $150, you can have unlimited bandwidth.

Personally this is a big blow to me as I live in an area limited to Time Warner Cable. But believe me when I will move to an area where I am out side TWC’s reaches the minute these caps are put into action in my area. With online video streaming, web page ads, music streaming and other bandwidth sucking applications out today. a cap on your internet service is utterly pathetic, especially for the amount TWC is charging.

Well enough of my painful experiences with TWC, read up on the service plans and bandwidth caps for yourself.

Trying to manage all the temporary files placed by installed software can be daunting. This is where file cleaner utilities comes in handy. Best of all, these are all FREE!

Without a doubt, CCleaner is consider one of the best file cleaner utilities around. Over the times, it has been updated to included many options and features, so make sure to take the time to read about them. CCleaner is freeware and is readily available at http://www.ccleaner.com/.

Following closely behind CCleaner would be Steven Gould’s CleanUP! This utility is effective and well designed, and should be considered if, for some reason, you just dislike CCleaner. If you’ve got a computer by any of the major OEM brands (sony, hp, dell…) then hit up the http://www.pcdecrapifier.com/ and get your computer cleaned up.

A list of some of the internet errors and their meaning

Looking at web page errors? Here is a list of some of those errors and their meaning

401 – Authorization Required

402 – Payment Require
You are most likely attempting to visit a subscription page that requires you to pay; the authentication is usually in the form of a password obtained after you have successfully paid. If you are unable to access the site after you have paid, it may be that the Webmaster has yet to activate your account, or have had your account suspended for various reasons. In such case, contact the Webmaster.

This error indicates that you need to use a proxy server, which requires authentication credentials. This means you need to log in to the correct proxy server before you’re able to view the website.

408 – Request Timeout
Your connection to the server was drop. This occurs when the connection takes too long. This is usually caused by excess traffic load on either the server or the client. Reloading or refreshing the page will usually solve the problem. If that doesn’t work, try visiting the page again later.

409 – Conflict
The request submitted cannot be completed because it is conflicting with a rule established by the server.

410 – Gone
Pretty much no different from a 404 error, the 410 error suggests that the page has moved to another location. Double check the URL and try again.

411 – Length Required
This error is generated when the server fails to find the specific length information from the browser. This error is usually due to configuration or programming errors on the server end.

412 – Precondition Failed
A precondition specification on your browser’s HTTP data was not met. This is typically a configuration or programming error on the server end.

412 – Request Entity Too Large
A typical error when uploading a file that is exceeds the servers predefined limit. The error could be due to configuration or programming error on the server end. Try sending a smaller file size.

414 – Request URI Too Long
The Universal Resource Identifier (URI) exceeds the size the server can handle. A URL is a type of URI, so in the case of browsing the internet, it maybe that the URL is too long. This error is rare as servers can handle upwards of 2048 characters or 4096 characters.

415 – Unsupported Media Type
This error is produce when the server sees the browser is requesting a media that is not fully compatible with the request. This happens during data transfer, such as uploading a file using a method that the server can’t accept.

500 – Server Error
Also seen as “internal Error,” this is produced when the HTML cannot be retrieve and the server has no specifics on what the cause of the error is. Double check the URL and try refreshing or visiting the site again at a later time.

501 – Not Implemented
Server does not support the requested feature. This almost always is the result of an HTML coding problem or a possible version conflict.

502 – Bad Gateway
Also known as “Service Temporarily Overloaded,” this error indicates that the server is congested as too many people are trying to connect to the server. Try visiting the website again during non-peak hour.

503 – Service Unavailable
An indication that the server is currently down or overloaded. Try refreshing or simply returning to the site at a later time when the server is back up.

504 – Gateway Timeout
The server is taking too long to respond to the gateway server. This could be an indication that there is a communication problem with the gateway server or the web server. Try visiting the web page at a later time.

505 – HTTP Version Not Supported
This error when the server does not support the HTTP protocol used by the web browser.

Guidelines to help you with clean up your hard drive.

There are many things that need to be done on a regular basis. Cleaning up your computer is one of them. Below are guidelines to help you with clean up your hard drive. Take the time to perform these cleaning steps on a regular basis.

Scandisk

Scandisk is a Windows system tool to diagnose and repair computer files and directory structures. It also runs a scan of your hard drive to mark off bad sectors. Scandisk will help to speed up your computer enabling faster access to files and folder, and should any bad sector be detected, prepare yourself to replace the hard drive as soon as you can.

Open Windows Explorer and right click on the C: drive. Click on properties and select the tools tab and click the Error Checking button.

Disk Defragmenter

Disk Defragmenter is also a Windows system tool. Disk Defragmenter will optimize your computers’ performance by rewriting the data on you hard drive. Files store to the hard drive are broken apart so to ensure that you receive maximum storage space, but this causes the computer to slow down as it searches for all the peices of the file. Defragmenting you drive to ensures that files are written together on the hard drive.
Make sure you are not running any other programs

Click the Start button and go to Programs, Accessories, System Tools and select Disk Defragmenter.

Disk Clean up

The Windows system stores many temporary files, this is fine and all, but if these files are temporary, why is it taking up permanent space on your hard drive? These files may seem small and harmless, but unless you clean them out, they will start to grow in size over time and start to dampen your computer’s performance.

Click the Start button and go to Programs, Accessories, System Tools and select Disk Cleanup. A display of temporary files will pop up on the screen. Check on each box and click OK.

Being a major city of California, Los Angeles has many computer repair centers. Finding computer repair service shouldn’t be too difficult. But because there is a larger selection of available repair stores in Los Angeles, you must be careful when deciding where to have your computer serviced. If you don’t already have a local technician you trust, be sure to talk to the technicians before having your computer repaired.

Don’t just take your computer to any technician for computer repair, take the extra mile to get it done right. There are many computer repair in Los Angeles, so make sure your technicians know what they are doing. Make sure your technician is experience in repairing computers, and the repair store of your choice has a good reputation. Don’t let the price of repairs or the convince of a nearby store be your sole decision maker when choosing to have your computer repair.

Basic tips on cleaning your computer

The number one thing everyone should be doing to prolong the life of their computer is to clean it. Physically cleaning the computer not only make your computer more pleasing to the eyes, but also keep it running nice and cool.

The most common way to clean out computers is the use the air cans. These air cans do a good job of blowing out all the dust that accumulates in your computer. Be careful when using air cans and follow the instructions. Make sure the computer is power off and the power cable is unplug before you begin cleaning the computer. Do not shake the can, spray it upside down, or hold the trigger for long periods of time. These air cans work best when done in quick bursts. Use of spray cans will indiscriminately blow dust up in the air, so I would recommend you take your computer outside and face downwind so the dust don’t blow in your face. Covering your face is also recommended.

Some use vacuum to clean out their computer as well. But because vacuum generates a lot of static electricity, I don’t particularly recommend it. I limit my use of vacuum to keyboard, mouse, and other exterior surfaces that would not be influence by the static electricity. For everything else, I would use air cans instead.

Limit the use of damp towels, or any other wipes (wet or dry) to the exterior only. Remember, water and electricity do not mix. Wiping the inside a computer with a towel can become dangerous as you might knock into things and damage them. Try keep contact to the interior of the computer to a minimal.
